The history of the Faculty began in 1960 with the establishment of the Economics School of Catering, which in 1969 was developed into the Department of Catering and Tourism (a professional four-year university program) of the Faculty of Economics in Rijeka.

In 1974, the Department of Catering and Tourism became Opatija Faculty of Hospitality. Today the faculty operates under the title Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Opatija.
